SEF in Camino Rojo: five days of building local economic capacity
A few weeks back, the SEF (Sustainable Economic Futures) team spent five days with the community near Equinox Gold’s Minera Camino Rojo in Mazapil, Zacatecas.
On Wednesday, we gave an inclusive entrepreneurship workshop that was open to the whole community. Participants worked through four questions: what they envision for their community, what already exists, what businesses could start there, and what stops people from taking the first step. Our approach is simple: for business to succeed, we need to remove obstacles and provide support. That support has to be free, confidential, competent and caring.
On Friday, community volunteers formed a working group to drive local economic growth. The group will turn the workshop’s ideas into action and make sure what local entrepreneurs need shapes future programs and infrastructure.
People with passion and the will to improve their lives are everywhere. What makes the difference is the support around them. Thank you to the community and to Equinox Gold for making this visit possible.
