March 2023
Our founder and Managing Director Suzette McFaul is back at PDAC. She is attending the conference and meeting with individuals to introduce our new programs. Entrepreneurial Development for Small Communities and Introduction to working with Entrepreneurs for strength and procurement.
The overall themes are simple:
Economic development in mining affected communities
For so many years, economic development has been implemented as a way to support communities’ sustainable development. Such an approach has led to economic dependency rather than economic opportunities. Traditionally, mining companies have supported economic development programs as part of their Social Responsibility, yet it doesn’t always result in economic benefits for communities.
Rethinking the challenges of ASM
How can mining projects and small-scale miners co-exist? How do companies navigate the security, environmental and social challenges that come with working with or near small-scale mining projects? What do companies have to change in order to ‘make it work’ with small-scale miners and what are the risks if they do not change.
