At SEF Canada, one of the most meaningful measures of impact is longevity, seeing projects we supported years ago continue to thrive, adapt, and uplift their communities. That’s why we’re proud to share the latest Year in Review from Accelerate UP, a project that has been creating real, measurable change since 2013.
Accelerate UP empowers entrepreneurs and propels small businesses to start, expand, and diversify through a comprehensive system. Over the years, the program has created or retained 459 jobs, helped launch, expand, or acquire 144 businesses, and supported access to $19.4 million in capital investments a powerful testament to what sustained, community-centered support can achieve.
Entrepreneurs in Action
One of the standout journeys Accelerate UP supported was that of Jake Barrett, owner of Barrett Auto. Jake’s passion for his craft, his commitment to community, and his vision of becoming a trusted shop owner were inspiring to witness. Through Accelerate UP, Jake received guidance on financial projections, access to legal resources, and a supportive team he could lean on as he built his business.
As Jake shares:

Another entrepreneur, Tyler Myrick, owner of Youngs Menswear, also benefited from the program’s free services. With the support of Accelerate UP, Tyler developed the confidence and skills needed to successfully run his business.
Tyler reflects:
“The grant was super helpful, as well as the advisory team to answer all types of questions from marketing, hiring, and legal services was very valuable.”
Celebrating Leadership and Recognition
Accelerate UP’s impact extends beyond individual businesses. This past year, Alexander Kofsky, Executive Director of Accelerate UP, was honoured with the Small Business Champion Award from LSCP at their Annual Dinner Celebration. This recognition reflects the dedication, leadership, and community commitment that drive the program forward.
